On April 2014 a group of artists from different West African countries gathered together in Villa Karo’s Lissa Gbassa hall for a two-week workshop. There were artists from Benin, Nigeria and Togo, and this was already the fourth time that they came together for a workshop like this. The ambiance in Grand-Popo is more than suitable for their activities: a small and calm village with beautiful nature (sea, sandy beaches, palms, …) and facilities such as the cultural center to bring people together. Also, worth noting is the possibility of creating connections to other parts of the world (namely to Finnish artists here at Villa Karo).

The group changes a little each year, depending on the participants and their other projects, but for example Godfrey Williams-Okorodus, Oludegun Adejumo, Togbe Fatoki and  Dafe Sowho from Nigeria and Yves Midauen from Benin have been actively participating. The idea for the workshop came, when Yves Midauen stayed in residence in Villa Karo, and told Godfrey Williams-Okorodus about the place afterwards.
